Yes, We Did!

Martyn Rhisiart Jones

Madrid, Friday 16th January 2026

Ah, Americans of Welsh origin. They were the quiet revolutionaries and the sneaky Founding Fathers. These are the guys and gals who basically built half the USA. Then, they vanished into the wallpaper like they owed money!

Weaving the Dragon’s Data: A Welsh-Inspired Tale for Enterprise Architects in the New Year – 2026/01/01

The calendar turns to a fresh page in this crisp January of 2026. We, enterprise data and information architects, stand at a new threshold. Another year welcomes us, brimming with digital transformations. Data lakes swell like the River Taff after a storm. Information architectures evolve like the ancient mountain tops of Snowdonia. But amidst the algorithms and schemas, let’s pause for a moment of whimsy. What if we drew inspiration from the misty realms of Welsh myths and legends? Wales, that land of dragons and bards, offers a tapestry of stories. These stories mirror our quests: taming chaotic data into structured wisdom. They are about preserving cultural legacies in vast repositories. They ignite innovation from the sparks of history. In this Happy New Year ode, we’ll begin a narrative journey through Welsh lore. It is infused with the spirits of its iconic figures. Dylan Thomas, Dannie Abse, Richard Burton, Shirley Bassey, Paul Robeson, and Gwynfor Evans are part of this infusion. These spirits illuminate the art of data stewardship.

The BBC’s Perpetual Storm: A Chronicle of Universal Discontent

Martyn Rhisiart Jones

Santiago de Compostela, 14th December 2025

London’s Broadcasting House is the BBC’s home. The air hums with the ceaseless rhythm of newsrooms. The ghosts of Reithian ideals linger in the corridors. The British Broadcasting Corporation stands as a colossus of public media. At its outset, the BBC was to “inform, educate and entertain” Reith carefully placed the words in that order. It is the Latin inscription in the hallway of Old Broadcasting House.

Negotiating Peace in a World of Violence

Martyn Rhisiart Jones

A Coruña, Galicia. 9th December 2025

Violent conflict does not end through force alone. History teaches us that the only way out of war, brutality, and suffering is through negotiation. And negotiation, in the real world, always requires compromise.

Yet today, calls for dialogue are too often branded as weakness, or worse, as ‘siding with terrorists.’ This is a dangerous lie. Advocating for peace is not an endorsement of violence. It is an insistence on the value of life. It is a recognition of the dignity of communities and the survival of societies.

Tax Evasion and Tax Havens

If anything, taxes for the lower and middle class and maybe even the upper-middle class should even probably be cut further. But I think that people at the high end – people like myself – should be paying a lot more in taxes. We have it better than we’ve ever had it.

US liberals still don’t get it, do they? I was particularly unimpressed by The Guardian’s US correspondent, Richard Wolffe, who wrote this of Trump “He is the very man Hillary Clinton warned us that he would be.”

Like as if we really need the advice of an entitled and arrogant warmonger about any other unhinged member of the globalised political circus.

What countries in the world have a reputation for arrogance and ignorance?

No country exclusively holds arrogance or ignorance. However, certain nations consistently top international surveys. They often appear in global stereotypes. People frequently use these stereotypes, often unfairly. This happens when asked, “Which nationality comes across as arrogant and/or clueless about the rest of the world?” The usual suspects, based on recurring data from sources like Pew Global Attitudes, YouGov international polls, Statista, Reddit’s r/AskReddit mega-threads, and expat forums, are most frequently named for arrogance

Calling Bullshit on Fakery

A LinkedIn post by Thorsten Wunde (or “WundeThorsten”) shared a viral anecdote claiming to illustrate why “socialism always fails.” The story presents an economics professor in Sweden. He fails an entire class after averaging the grades to simulate socialist equality. This action leads to widespread laziness and eventual collapse. It concludes with a moral: When half the population realises they can slack off, the nation is in danger. The other half sees no reward for effort. This marks the end of every nation. This tale aims to serve as compelling evidence of socialism’s inherent flaws. However, it is deeply problematic on several levels. It is factually, logically, and empirically flawed. It’s a classic example of a fabricated parable. It is dressed up as real-world evidence. This story has been circulating online since at least 2009. It appears as chain emails and memes, often tied to U.S. politics (e.g., “Obama’s socialism”). Below, we’ll break it down systematically.
