What countries in the world have a reputation for arrogance and ignorance?
Right, listen up, you lot. No country has a monopoly on being a complete arsehole or a walking brain donor, but let’s be honest, some nations keep winning the gold in the Arrogance Olympics and the Ignorance Paralympics like it’s their national sport. And they don’t even have to train for it – it’s just baked in, like the French with their bread or the Americans with their portion sizes.
Seven years on, the verdict is in, and it’s not flattering. Back in 2019, in a Brussels-fuelled rant channelling the incomparable Bob Hoffman, I declared Agile at Scale the next frontier of IT bullshit: immature, ill-conceived, supercilious, and emphatically not agile. It killed communication with jargon, turned criticism into heresy, and mangled history by ignoring what actually worked. I called it a cultish Frankenstein of Scientology zeal, Vatican pomp, and authoritarian quirks – all wrapped in vainglorious slide decks.
To paraphrase the great Bob Hoffman. Just when you feared that Agile evangelists might produce even more nonsense, they surprise you. What do they do? Exceed expectations.
And how did they do that? Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to Agile at Scale. It comes with all the miscellaneous, spiced-up, and vainglorious crap-on-the-side that accompanies it.

No country exclusively holds arrogance or ignorance. However, certain nations consistently top international surveys. They often appear in global stereotypes. People frequently use these stereotypes, often unfairly. This happens when asked, “Which nationality comes across as arrogant and/or clueless about the rest of the world?” The usual suspects, based on recurring data from sources like Pew Global Attitudes, YouGov international polls, Statista, Reddit’s r/AskReddit mega-threads, and expat forums, are most frequently named for arrogance

Artificial Intelligence and quantum computing have both been honoured with these accolades in recent years, complete with nine-figure funding rounds, breathless TED talks, and the occasional greed-driven billionaire divination. Both fields are genuinely necessary. Both are also surrounded by a fog of exaggeration so thick that even seasoned observers struggle to see the road ahead.
