They told us that by voting for Brexit we would take back control.
They told us that Brexit would mean control over sovereignty and immigration. Which would mean total control over the economy, culture, society, law making, international relationships and trade.
They told us that voting for Brexit was the only patriotic option on offer.

Last year I was asked if I would contemplate taking on the management of Brexit. It was a hypothetical question. No one is actually going to offer me the job. I had no qualms in stating that, given the complexity, uncertainties, risks and costs, I would hope that I would have the good sense to turn down such an offer. With the recommendation to the client that they should not to undertake such a reckless, costly and strategically stupid project.

Let’s face it.
Brexit is bullshit.
Maybe it’s worse than bullshit.
Either way, one thing is for sure. Brexit is the most revealing, significant and catastrophic episode of irrational, self-harming and bloody-minded lunacy in the entire history of the British Isles.
But, why did it turn out that way?
What drove so many people to vote for far greater risk, uncertainty about the future and the rejection of the stability, presence and influence that we have within the EU?

Although I am not a Labour voter, I, like many people across the UK, have been following the Labour Party leadership debates, which have seen the incumbent Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and Labour MP Owen Smith battling it out in public. And although it’s not up there with Itchy and Scratchy, it still provides some surprisingly irritating entertainment interspersed with facts, fiction, Pontypandy bitchiness and Islington exasperation.

Months have passed since the United Kingdom held its European Union membership referendum which resulted in a ‘win’ for the pro-leave Brexiteers. Yet the strongest signal coming out of London is that the government is stalling; playing for time. Clearly, as yet, the government hasn’t worked out in any real, concrete or detailed terms what it should be doing or where the country should be going or what it can even say to the array of stakeholders and interested parties. Which, given that Brexit is by far the biggest constitutional challenge in my lifetime, is quite problematic.
